Roadtrip to Canada – Seattle, WA.

IMG_6880 IMG_6882 IMG_6884 IMG_6885 IMG_6886 IMG_6889 IMG_6890 IMG_6904Last night was my first night in a hostel since 2006 when I studied Shakespeare abroad in London.  Despite my apprehension, everything was fine and we both slept like little rocks.  We spent the morning in Portland and got really excited about their healthy food scene.  Prasad is a gorgeous yoga studio complete with on-scene juice bar/healthy food bowl goodness.  I wish I lived in that studio.  We just got juices though and ran across the street for some Mexican food.

Then it was on to Seattle, with a short stop in the middle to see one of Michael’s old Army Ranger buddies who just had a new baby boy.IMG_6911 IMG_6932 IMG_6937 IMG_6954 IMG_6957 IMG_6958

We are staying at another hostel tonight, but we have a private room.  Much nicer.  I’ve been surprised by how easy and nice these hostels are.  Totally doable.

Dinner?  Of course we went back to our beloved Local 360.IMG_6964 IMG_6966 IMG_6973 IMG_6977 IMG_6981Michael wheel-barrowed himself out of there.  I think we both need a little bit of juicing and greenness in the new year, but until then, party on!  Tomorrow, Vancouver, CANADA.

Mom’s birthday weekend in Seattle, Day 2.

We headed out from dinner at Local360 and went straight to Nordstrom Rack where we proceeded to try on every pair of awful shoe possible.I actually secretly kind of wanted to buy every single pair of the colorful shoes I tried on, but I’m going to blame that on my Mom who was egging me on and also dancing up a storm in the store.  But somehow, I really thought my wardrobe needed an injection of color.  And that’s how I ended up with a neon-blue fringed leather jacket.  But this wasn’t the end.  This was just the end of Saturday night.  Sunday morning, we were up early-ish to hit the market one last time and eat our weight in salmon jerky.  Before we got to Pike’s Place though, I was determined to eat a damn crumpet if it was the last thing I did in Seattle.Despite the long wait, despite the confusion at the counter, despite the fact that I expected a crumpet to be a cross between a biscuit and a scone and it’s really more like a pancakey-English muffin, the crumpets were freaking delicious.  Pesto egg and English cheese?  The best.  Crumpet smothered in butter and homemade blackberry jam?  Yes.

Mom and I are back in San Francisco at my parents’ house and about to eat dinner with the family.  Michael is heading over right now and I’m about to surprise him with my new blue jacket.  Beautiful weekend.  Happy birthday Mumsies!!!

xoxo,

Jenn
