Chris took me and our grandparents out for Sunday brunch at one of the busiest dim sum places in the city, Hong Kong Lounge in the Richmond at 17th and Geary. Wait times are at least half an hour minimum usually.
We learned two valuable lessons today. First, we shouldn’t attempt dim sum without our parents. Second, someone should go over all the things we checked “yes” to on the menu and make sure that we aren’t getting 7 dishes with shrimp.
To be honest, we were working with handicaps. Chris and I can only read rudimentary Chinese and both grandparents forgot their reading glasses. Also, the English translations of dishes don’t really match what Chris and I think the dish actually is.
End result? We got twice as much food as needed for the four of us, shrimp in probably more than half the things we ordered, 6 dishes that were essentially the exact same, and at least 4 things that absolutely stumped us. No idea what they were.
At least I have dinner and lunch and maybe another snack from the doggy-bagged leftovers. Poor Chris was stuck with the $110 check. Thanks, baby brother!!
