Michael is back from New York, finally. I feel like I haven’t seen him in over a month since he’s been away on business trips constantly. I’ve wanted to try Bouche, which opened in December last year, forever. It’s super close to our apartment and Amanda says it’s delicious. I think it was also written up in a few articles for being new, hot and tasty.

The decor is awesome. The restaurant is skinny and tall with two floors. It probably only sits about 25 people max.

When our apps came out – octopus and marinated squash salad for me and velvety smooth corn soup for Michael – I knew we were going to have a problem. Bouche does not serve the type of food Michael eats. I loved my salad. Michael’s soup was also amazing although a touch too nutmeg-y. I know because I ate it all. But Michael was not pleased. He doesn’t like “weird” food and Bouche is just a little too interesting and unexpected for him.
Then our mains came out and Michael was like WTF. I kind of WTF’ed his entree too because I expected a piece of salmon and other sides, not a crispy bird’s nest with lox on top. There’s a runny egg hidden under there too.
But when I tried a bite of his plate, it was unbelievable. All the textures and flavors were delicious together. So I ate it all. And everything on my plate too. The tempura tomato balls were ridiculous.
I barely had room for the plum tart, but I tried.
Michael came home and ate a can of chili. So while I’m definitely going back to Bouche, maybe next time I’ll go with Amanda.
xoxo,
Jenn
