San Francisco is warming up!

What do you do when a foggy, romantic city like San Francisco decides to put on its Tory Burch flats, slap on a layer of foundation and declare that it’s gone LA on you for a day?

You enjoy it. That’s what you do. Temps in San Francisco rarely, rarely edge above 70 and today, the sun was out in full-85-degree-blazing force. It was glorious. Everywhere the eye landed, skin was showing. It felt like the roaring beginning of summer. (Forecast says rain for the weekend, but whatever.)

So what do I do when San Francisco reminds me of my UCLA sorority days tanning out on the Back Porch at Chi O? I take my cat for a walk, that’s what I do.

That’s Miaosie. She’s a Siamese mix rescue kitty and you can read all about her over on my cat blog miaosie.com. She adores being out and about garnering pets from strangers.

But walking a cat wasn’t enough. I needed more sun, warmth and balmy breezes. M and I went to Nick’s for margaritas and Mexican.

I bought a coupon off Yelp months and months ago, but tonight was the perfect time to use it. I paid $10 for $20 worth of food and drink. It was my first time at Nick’s and the inside was as red as a whorehouse. The Giants v. Dodgers game was on (sad ending) and the place was pretty full.

The clientele must’ve been coming for the game because the food was mediocre. My corn/black bean salad with grilled fish was pretty good, but had about a thousand too many red onions in there. Maybe I’m just extra sensitive to onions, but I still have onion tongue and I hate it. Gross. M was disappointed with his burrito. I think he just wished he was at Super Taqueria in Fremont.

M insisted on ordering this corn on the cob slathered in some weird cheesy creamy mixture. I didn’t like the outside very much, but the corn itself was delicious. I believe it’s called an elote. Regardless of the meh food and the Giants first loss, it was the perfect early summer night.

Here’s to many, many more!

Holiday craziness.

Wow. What a crazy late night we had yesterday. Mumsies was wonderful. She sang “Fernando,” “Tennessee Waltz,” and her good ol’ standby “Careless Whisper.” Knocked it out of the house. However, dad was not so lucky. He drank a little too much “water” from his “water bottle” and the holiday spirit got to him.  I had to take over his emcee duties when he stumbled into one of the wires and knocked out the electronic amp while the guitarist was mid-riff. The musician was not pleased.

On our way home up the 101-North around 11 p.m., we saw a car flip right in front of us. No joke.

Vehicles came to a screeching halt, M jumped out of the car, and this woman yelled at me to call 911. I frantically tried dialing through, but either my phone wasn’t working, or something was wrong with the connection, but all I could get was a busy signal. 911 isn’t supposed to be busy ever right?

With a few other passer-bys, M helped the driver get out of the car. The poor man seemed dazed, and his passenger was still belted into the car which had landed on its side, but CHP was on the scene shortly and things seemed to be ok.

Eeeesh.

This morning, I needed a little help to wake up. Strong green tea in the cute little teapot M got from Bed, Bath and Beyond yesterday. If you ever get the chance, there is really decent Mexican eatery at the 9th and Bryant branch of BBB. Their salads are enormous.

Confession. M and I didn’t go to the farmer’s market today. And it wasn’t because we weren’t in the city or because we had to do something else. M just had to go to the Niners game and was afraid he’d miss his 10:11 a.m. train. So I gave up my fresh, organic produce and settled for Cala Foods to feed his sports fanaticism. I did make peanut butter cookies though. Cookies that SUCK. Ok, they aren’t horrible, but I expected them to be sweeter and chewier. They are drier than I would like (almost like shortbread), and toe the sweet/salty line a little too much.

Sadly, my cookie streak of a one-time success has ended. There was something wrong with the recipe. The dough was super dry and crumbly so I had to hand-form every cookie. Whatever. Over it.

After I ate a sucky cookie, I left for my acupuncture appointment (where I got stuck in the ear by Melissa), and went shopping.

This beauty was calling my name. It is the perfect opera or special event cape. I love it.

I also bought M a second pressie! I love the holidays.
