Twisted Root, another Dallas repeat.

I guess I’m just tasting all my favorite Dallas tastes one last time before I head back to San Francisco.  Who cares about trying new things when the familiar is proven to be solid?  Twisted Root was great the first time around and just as delicious today for a lunch my coworkers treated me to.Again, the bourbon bread and butter pickles are ridiculous.  We tried the pina colada pickles too. Not a fan.  Tasted like the crispy, perfectly sweet and salty of the bourbon bread and butter pickles, but dunked in Tropicana sunscreen. A Fried Ride with fried green beans?  My favorite.  House special blackberry root beer?  Perfectly refreshing with just a hint of berry.  A black bean burger on a gluten-free bun, drizzled with house barbeque sauce, mustard, and ketchup?  Done and done.

Pretty great second-to-last day lunch.

Twisted Root, only place for a fried ride.

My coworkers and I went to Twisted Root for lunch today.  There are a couple in Dallas, but the closest was the one near SMU.

This restaurant is awesome.  The decor is funny and engaging, while appropriately Texas-feeling (not sure how to describe that feeling, but I’m going to run with it).  Twisted Root serves your typical burgers, fries, and milkshakes with just the perfect spin on the classic. Example: game meat burgers.  They had kangaroo, emu, ostrich, alligator etc. in addition to your common beef and turkey.  I got a black bean burger.  Not quite as exotic, but a dang good patty nonetheless.

Another example: adult milkshakes.  Holy cow.  A thick, cold, creamy milkshake with a shot of amaretto or creme de menthe or banana liquor (ew!) among other flavors.  If I hadn’t been there with coworkers on a workday, I would bought that $10 milkshake and enjoyed every last delicious drop.Example number 3: all the pickles!  I love pickles and they had so many flavors, obviously homemade.  Loved it.  The bourbon bread and butter were the best.

Example four: gluten-free buns.  An extra $2 gets you a gluten-free bun.  I don’t have gluten sensitivities, but got the gluten-free bun because I was curious.  Thankfully, my curiosity didn’t get me in trouble today like it normally does.  The bun was great.  Tasted just like real bread, which in my book means that they’re doing gluten-free right. Final example: the fried ride!!!  Yep, as greasy as it sounds, but you can’t underestimate the amazingness that is this basket of fried things.I think they got a bit of every type of fried thing you can get in there.  This was one ride I wasn’t missing out on.  The fried green beans were my favorite.

If you’re ever in Texas and near a Twisted Root, it’s worth a lunch.  It’s even worth the giant food baby I sported and the food coma I was in afterward in my cubicle back at work.

Michael will be here in 3.5 hours!

xoxo,

Jenn
