It’s been a very Texas kind of day.

My roommate Caitlyn and I went to a pool party her friend was throwing as both a house-warming and July 4th bash. That’s where I learned that first of all, people do have massive stuffed and mounted animals hanging in their house and second, that it’s common to have a “hunting fridge” where you store all your “hunting meat” here in Texas.
You can’t exactly tell how big those heads were, but they were enormous. And kind of scary.
Up next was a visit to Steak Kountry to meet up with Caitlyn’s parents for a quick chat. We saw a lemonade stand, talked to the little girl, and found out her entrepreneurial spirit resulted in a solid $18 today.

Caitlyn and I finished off the evening with a little bit of shopping, I needed new work shoes, and ended the night at a nearby taco place. Velvet Taco would fit right in anywhere in the Mission in San Francisco. Got the exact same laidback, rootsy type of vibe. (Is “rootsy” even an adjective? It is now.)

I’ve loved seeing a bit more of Texas and meeting more Texans. Sure is different from San Francisco, but I kind of like all that difference.
xoxo,
Jenn
