Peru “Whole Foods.”

I didn’t end up doing much of anything today at all.  My memo application for UC Hastings’ journals needs to be finished soon since we leave for Machu Picchu on Thursday, but I’ve only gotten through reading the prompt and cases so far.

At least Michael got me off my butt and to the gym for 15 minutes of the elliptical.  We stopped at Vivanda again after the gym so I could grab a couple of Peruvian snacks.  This place is very much like Whole Foods.  Lot of pretty and fresh produce, cheeses, olives, and even a hot bar. Almost all of their imported beers had a security sensor snug around the bottle neck.

I spied lots of desserts.  They even had the caramel that goes in between the alfajore cookies in a container by itself in the refrigerated section.  I really wanted to just eat it by the spoonful, but restrained myself and got the delicious cookies instead.  Alfajores are one of my favorite South American treats. That soda was a pure impulsive, curiosity buy.  It tastes super strange.  Kind of like toastier Coke or Pepsi but with a deep molasses taste.  It’s supposed to be malt-flavored and “nutritious.”  First time I’ve had anything malt so there’s that.

Dinner was pieced together from a fresh baguette, two types of cheese and tomatoes from Vivanda’s and a couple of goodies from San Antonio’s down the street.  San Antonio’s is a pretty awesome cafe with lots of pastries and desserts, but also sandwiches and other savory things.I think I’m finally starting to recover from this past semester of law school.  The first one went ok, but the second really drained me and exams were tough to get through.

Goodnight, happy Monday, and it’s back to brainstorming this memo for me.

xoxo,

Jenn

  1. Great post Jennifer! I’m a real foodie and it’s great to know about this place. I’ll be spending a good deal of time there, I’m sure :)

  2. This lot of pictures is why I’m going to flush myself down the loo in a minute because you can get food like that in Peru but we ain’t got nothing like that here in Hong Kong. *Green-eyed with jealousy*
