Michael and I only have a couple of days to see as much of Lima as we can. He has to work tomorrow and I have to start busting out my law school journal application. We leave Thursday on our five-day Inca trail hike to Machu Picchu which I am fully prepared for and expecting to kick our sorry butts.
Miraflores has been nothing short of amazing. Last night we went to the gym only to find it closed because Miraflores was having an arts festival – Noche en Blanco. That was all the excuse we needed to throw our gym plans out the window and head to the party. It was a great time – more on this in a couple of days while I’m camping out on the trail with no Internet access.
Today we headed out to the Historic Centre of Lima which is a must-see for any tourist. Francisco Pizarro conquered Peru in the early 16th century and apparently razed an Incan holy building and built a cathedral on top. He also built his enormous house right next door which is now a government building – Palace de Gobierno.
We strolled around admiring the colonial and Art Deco styles of the buildings. I think I might have had ceviche at least once or twice a day in Lima so far. I love it. Ceviche and granadillas (fresh passion fruit) are my two weaknesses.

One thing I’ve noticed about Miraflores and historic Lima is that all the parks are manicured perfectly. The streets are very clean and everything is generally well-kept. I also like that there seems to be festivals and events happening all the time. Always something to do.
We walked down to the Parque de la Muralla because I spied a llama!
It’s the first time I’ve seen one up close and personal. The park seemed to have some sort of halfway petting zoo and right next door was a spontaneous theme park. Strange, but I went with the flow.
Michael and I went back to Miraflores for the evening and spent it at the most amazing coast-side mall ever. More to come later. Goodnight. I am one tired girl from going to the gym and all this walking!
