To market we go.

After a couple of wallet-lightening hours, we have more than enough souvenirs to take home.  And these souvenirs are fantastic.  I am especially excited to show my brother his presents.

We started out around noon, walked past the cat park again, and got a few snacks to fuel up before hitting the artisan handicrafts stores.  Peru is known for alpaca things and I was set on bringing home something alpaca.  There were so many scarves, blankets, shawls, and ponchos that it was hard to choose though.  At one point, I wanted to bring home a teddy bear made of baby alpaca fur, but Michael vetoed it.

So I bought my brother a ridiculous knit mask instead.  Chris, this is your first present.  I have another something for you, but you’ll have to wait until I get home.  You can wear this to rob banks, scare small children on the ski slopes, and just for kicks and giggles.  It’s awesome. I got some amazing alpaca slippers.  I look like Bigfoot and my feet feel like cloudpuffs.  After spending all our money, we needed a snack fast.  Shopping is exhausting.Michael and I ended up at a hole-in-the-wall called Tropicana with a big plate of ceviche and drinks.  Totally hit the spot.  I got a lucuma smoothie out of curiosity.  Bright orange in color, it tasted faintly of prunes, almonds, and maple syrup.  Lucuma is a tropical fruit that I’ve never tasted or seen, but apparently is pretty popular in Peru.  One of my frozen yogurt flavors today was also lucuma.  I’m a fan.

I’m loving Peru so far.

Michael is napping, but we’re going to hit the gym soon and find another hole-in-the-wall for dinner tonight.

xoxo,

Jenn
