So yesterday in Part One of my law school summer job search, I talked about how I had only a few goals when I started applying – apply early to lots of different places that seem interesting because I’m not quite sure what it is I want to do yet.

Out of the 15 or so places I applied to, roughly 1/3 rejected me.  Keep in mind that a couple of those rejections I should have seen coming because big law firms don’t hire 1Ls.

Roughly 1/3 of those applications just vanished into the atmosphere.  I never heard back from them.  Still haven’t heard back from them.  Hastings’ Career Center says that places really don’t start hiring extensively until late-March and April because law students aren’t going to start working until June.  While students start feeling the pressure in early March, all the companies are sitting pretty with no idea of the anxiety they are causing.

The last 1/3 contacted me for interviews.

One of those interviews turned into a job offer a couple of weeks ago, aka “the best day of law school so far.”  That was also the day I found out about making it onto a Moot Court team for Fall semester.

I am so excited, relieved, nervous, and happy to say that I will be working with the in-house team at Prudential Financial this summer.  It’s a paid internship and I will be relocating temporarily to Dallas, Texas for two months.  I love traveling and have never been to Texas, so this is a bonus.
