Michael is leaving April 2 for Lima, Peru. For three months. I did have a temporary freak-out moment since this is going to be, by far, the longest time we’ve ever spent apart, but we’ve planned several dates in the time he has left in San Francisco.
Tonight, Michael took me out to a restaurant I’ve been wanting to try for quite some time. Baker & Banker, a New American cuisine restaurant opened up by a husband and wife team on Bush and Octavia. They have a bakery right next door too that always smells divine.

Unfortunately, I committed a major blogger faux pas and didn’t charge my camera before leaving for dinner. Of course my camera died just as we got to the restaurant. The rest of the pictures are courtesy of Michael’s smartphone.

For starters I got the grilled octopus and Michael got the pork belly. Definitely get the pork belly. It was fantastic. My octopus was a little too soft. Didn’t have quite enough of a chew to stand up to the potatoes and bitter arugula.
Entrees were a lamb trio for Michael and the seared flounder for me. The couscous was great, but Michael didn’t like his dish so much. I think he’s just not a fan of lamb though and it wasn’t the entree’s fault.
I ordered the coconut cream pie for dessert and Michael got the guava cheesecake. Both pretty wonderful. I wanted to try the XXX chocolate cake too.
Baker & Banker was fun to try, but I don’t know that Michael and I would go back. It was pretty loud in there and though our dinner probably would have only taken two hours, I felt like we were rushed out at the end. It’s a small restaurant with limited tables so I understand that they need to turn the tables at least once, but it didn’t leave me with the best feeling.
More fun times coming up!
xoxo,
Jenn
