I feel like this is almost jinxing it, but I’m pretty sure I found my wedding venue. I know. Hold on, brakes please. What?!
Yea, I know this is the first mention of wedding-anything here, but we’ve only been thinking about this for a couple of weeks. What can I say, I’m a get-it-done kind of woman.
Michael and I originally were planning on a wedding in 2015 since law school is supposed to be super hard and who knows how much time and energy I’d have to plan a wedding. Well, law school is definitely no joke, but it hasn’t crushed my spirit or killed me yet. *Knock on wood*
Michael proposed at Fort Mason last October so I knew from the get-go that I wanted to check out whether any of their venues might work.
The General’s Residence was my first choice. It just got renovated and looked fantastic from the pictures online. In my mind, I’d pictured an old, historic-looking mansion with awesome views out the back and an outdoor grassy area overlooking the water. I’d have the ceremony outside and bring it in for the reception.
But even though I had pretty high expectations, I was blown away today during my walk-through appointment. I brought my dad and brother Chris along because I wanted to know whether it was sufficiently impressive enough. Well, it’s absolutely breathtaking. The view is obviously ridiculously good, but the feel of the place is exactly what I was looking for. It’s cozy, warm, old and full of history, but grand at the same time.

I’m pretty sure dad was biased against the General’s Residence because Fort Mason is NOT cheap and I don’t think he really believed me when I said it was the perfect place.
I mean, it’s the only place I’ve seen and really the only place I wanted to see. My dad loves to comparison shop. But, after seeing it and going home to rave about it to my mom, he called me.
Dad: “It’s really something. I think it’s worth it.”
I think this is it. We’re looking at a wedding sometime next year. Eeek!
xoxo,
Jenn

/ August 28, 2012Hi Tovah,
The General’s residence is so beautiful right?! Since it’s a holiday weekend we were interested in AND it almost coincided with the America’s Cup regatta next year, we were worried that it would be booked for events. We definitely booked it a year in advance (which is as far in advance as they’ll let you book it) and made sure to let them know that we were very interested all along. I don’t know much about the booking process because we had our planner do it for us. Let me know if I can answer any other questions!
