Cala Foods closed yesterday. Since it’s only about two and a half blocks away, I’ve been getting all my groceries from there for the last two years. What am I supposed to eat now?!
Whole Foods, on Franklin and California, is only about four or five blocks further. Guess I’ll have to shop there. I don’t mind, Whole Foods has pretty awesome stuff. I don’t think Michael is going to be happy with the burgeoning grocery budget though.
I checked it out for lunch today to do some reconnaissance. When I was working and traveling a couple of years ago, I ate lunch at Whole Foods every day straight for weeks on end – a small little box of rainbow salad and a split pea soup. Delicious. This Whole Foods’ hot bar sucks. They had a ton of soups too, but not split pea.
Lunch was just a smattering of all the things that looked good to me, but didn’t end up actually tasting that good. What was good was probably one of the weirdest drinks I’ve ever seen. Kombucha with chia seeds in it.
I like kombucha. I also like chia seeds. I’ve had both before. Just not together. It’s so strange – kind of like sourish snot that rolls down your throat. Try it.
By the way, what is with the really hot weather. It’s December. Hello San Francisco, what’s going on? I hung out at my friend Mike’s apartment for a bit after lunch which was glorious. The patio was so sunny and warm. We’re off to Monterey tomorrow for a black tie gala.
xoxo,
Jenn
