What’s going on with the earthquakes in San Francisco today?! One happened while I was in Torts class and everyone freaked – the freakers were clearly not from California. The other occurred while I had dinner with the family. We’re native San Franciscans and a few little shakes aren’t going to faze us. We just paused in eating and went back to stuffing our faces. Since yesterday was kind of a bum day, Mumsies decided it was time for a pick-me-up. She ferried me and Michael back to their house in the Sunset with a couple of stops by the way.First, to the Asian supermarket. New May Wah has so many things. I was paralyzed by all the snack choices and just stood there helplessly staring. Mumsies picked out a few for me. There was also a pit of durian. Stinky durian. I wanted to try one, but my dad vetoed it. He didn’t want his house to smell like ass. Then, after stocking up on goodies and some sake, Michael and I went over to my grandparents and officially announced our engagement. My grandma cooed over the ring and my dad assured my grandpa (in Chinese) that Michael is a solid guy and a good choice. Favorite quote:
Dad: “He wasn’t just any foot soldier in the Army, he was a RANGER!”
My grandpa used to be a navy admiral in Chiang Kai Shek’s army and definitely respects the military. I think the grandparents approve. At least I hope so :).
Dinner was fantastic. Mumsies’ a great cook and food always tastes better when you don’t have to make it yourself anyway. The cherry on top was when the neighborhood stray cat came running out from the bushes when I miao’ed for her. I haven’t seen her in over a year, but she obviously remembered me. So sweet.
