I use clothes and accessories to set the mood or tone for each day. You may think it silly, but what I wear has a direct correlation on how I feel. And sometimes when I’m especially tired, I’ll make an even bigger effort to dress nicely and look put together. My rationale is if I’m tired on the inside, at least I don’t look tired on the outside.
Usually I pick out my outfit the night before – saves me loads of time and indecision in the mornings. Also, I usually don’t end up looking like a slob or a weirdo. Bonus. When I’m feeling blah, I slap on some red lipstick for an instant confidence boost. Works every time.
I try to have one “special” or fun thing on a day. A printed scarf, my favorite pair of shoes, a necklace from Egypt, some intense lip color, anything really. When I feel together on the outside, I feel more pulled together mentally.
On Monday I rocked some dark purple lipstick and a new silk kimono-esque top. Two things are even better than one. Today, it was all about the scarf my best friend Kayla brought back from her honeymoon in Bali for me. Tomorrow, TBD. I’ll be scrounging in my closet in about three minutes.
Any edge in law school is an edge I will happily be willing to take.
xoxo,
Jenn
