I’ve been a nervy ball of anxiety for the last three days since law school orientation started, and when I’m anxious, I can’t eat. I just lose all appetite and it’s hard for me to force food down past the lump of nervousness in my throat. It could be worse – I could be a huge overeater when I get stressed.
So after all the odd snacks and quick bites I’ve managed to force down, all eaten mostly after I got home from orientation these past three days, I was ready for a good meal. I did some reading today in preparation for the start of classes next week, set up the VAIO laptop Michael gave me exclusively for law school business, and felt much more prepared and in control of everything.
I think I’m going to be OK.
And the meal I had tonight went a long way toward reassuring me as well.

Michael took me to the Bell Tower at the corner of Polk and Jackson. He’s been there before with Sean and promised he’d take me after having a delicious meal with his bestie. It was a little chilly, but I wanted fresh air after being cooped up in the apartment studying all day, so we sat outside at this crooked little round table/bar stool setup.
There are quite a few dishes I want to try so I think we’ll have to go back. At the top of the “to-try” list is the jalapeno mac and cheese. I contemplated getting that or the beer-battered snapper today, but after the hostess led off her specials spiel with something about pan-seared salmon and a coconut risotto cake, I knew I was done.
I love coconut anything and risotto cakes.

It was wonderful. Mango salsa, hoisin-flavored sauteed veggies, a nice hunk of salmon and a cheesy, melty, crispy-on-the-outside coconut risotto cake. Everything was kind of sweet across the board, but I liked it. I was in the mood for sweet.
M enjoyed his spaghetti and meatballs too. He loves his pasta, that’s for sure.
I continued the sweet theme with dessert – chocolate souffle with vanilla bean ice cream. The ice was so good, I ate both my scoops. And the entire souffle. Then scraped the caramel drizzle up and ate that too.
