Candida, by Bernard Shaw.

Last night, Michael and I saw what has now become one of our favorite plays at the Bruns Amphitheater in Orinda. Cal Shakes really does a great job in their choice of material as well as their set design and, of course, directing and acting.

I’ve heard of Shaw before since he’s such a famous and prolific playwright, but have never read or seen one of his works performed before. Kind of embarrassing for an English major, but such is life. Favorite lines from the play?

“I have nothing to offer you but my strength for your defence, my honesty for your surety, my ability and industry for your livelihood, and my authority and position for your dignity.‎”

Spoken by James Morell, the reverend husband of Candida, when he bids for Candida’s affection and love toward the end of the play.  love those lines.

P.S. The mittens that M’s wearing while drinking out of his goblet are actually camel hair socks we bought from a Bedouin village while in Egypt last year. And my scarf in that horrible picture Michael took of me as I was talking? A scarf Kayla brought back for me from her honeymoon in Bali. Rocking the international fashion!
