Michael and I are in Orinda at CalShakes right now watching “The Verona Project.” Go Shakespeare!
We’re probably going to get home super late tonight with our empty, but awesome, picnic basket. So instead of telling you about the play (maybe tomorrow), I need to tell you about something else.
Michael loves pasta. He’d probably eat it every meal if he could.
Me, not so much. I actually have some sort of aversion to pasta, maybe stemming from my old pageant competition days. I view pasta as basically nutritionless white carbs. Not good for me. I eat it every once in a while, but it’s gotta be super good pasta and I have to be in the mood.
I’ve tried serving Michael whole wheat pasta as a compromise. He hates it. A few days ago, I went to Trader Joe’s and happened upon a special kind of pasta. Brown rice penne pasta.
The only thing left to do? Experiment on Michael.
I didn’t tell him it was brown rice pasta. I just cooked it up, sauced it with lots of veggies and tomato sauce, and served him a giant bowl. He went back for seconds. I think I can safely say he didn’t notice. The taste of winning overpowered the weird, limp, brown rice noodles. The garlic chives saute on the side was really good though.
Muahahaha. Now I just need to figure out whether brown rice pasta is better nutritionally for me than regular pasta.
Hi Michael. Surprise!
