Yesterday, Mumsies took me grocery shopping in Chinatown. The store was located at the corner of Stockton and Broadway.
It was an experience. People and produce were sardine-jammed into a smallish store, shoving each other, cutting in line, and just going nuts. Wow. I don’t know if I can battle like that for groceries every week.
The reason, however, for the crush are the prices in that store. Dirt cheap.
I got:
10 heads of garlic
1/2 pound of lychees!
1 bunch of cilantro
1 bunch of green onion
1 bunch of chives
5 white peaches
5 plums
2 lemons
4 red onions
2 packages of enoki mushrooms
5 tomatos
1 giant squash thing I don’t know the name for
1 huge kabocha
4 cucumbers
6 carrots
1 thing of celery
Isn’t that a huge list of groceries? It’s basically all M and I need for the entire week, probably with a bit leftover. And we usually spend at least $80 at Cala Foods. Granted, that $80 includes non-produce and fruit items like orange juice, soy milk, butter and eggs etc., but still.

I got all of the above for $13.61.
How? No idea. It could be worth the fight.
xoxo,
Jenn
