India 7/9 – Delhi, Humayun’s Tomb.

It’s monsoon season here right now, but Hyderabad really didn’t get too much rain so M and I were caught entirely unprepared when the sky came down on us just as we got to Humayun’s Tomb. Oh well, this is part of the adventure right? We prowled around the tomb in the pouring rain and got absolutely soaked. And it was great.

This is the tomb of the first Mughal emperor. If I remember correctly, it was built by his wife in his memory. The Taj Mahal is supposedly based on this building.

Sidenote about the lattice work you see in the picture above.

I read on one of the inscriptions that there is a story of how the Prophet Muhammed, in fleeing his enemies, escaped into a cave to hide. A spider wove its web over the entrance of the cave and the Prophet’s enemies did not find him. The lattice work is meant to be representative of that spider’s web.

I thought the legend very dear.

Up next – India Gate.

xoxo,

Jenn
