M’s 10-year high school reunion was last night in Fremont. That was the special event I was attending. It was all sorts of awkward, anxiety-producing, and weird from what I could tell. But M was definitely the coolest kid on the block. He wore his high school Letterman (football and wrestling) simply because this was probably the only opportunity he’ll ever have to sport it again.
I’ve seen a few Letterman jackets in my time, but M’s is ridiculous. My high school reunion isn’t for quite a few more years thank goodness.
After a traumatic very late night, M and I woke up around 10 a.m. and got ready to farmer’s market it up. But first, I realized we still had massive amounts of produce in the crisper. I’ve figured out that we are buying too much each weekend, beguiled by the vast array and colorful multitudes. We need to scale back.
So I cut up everything we had left and sautéed up a giant stir fry. Served over mashed potatoes with a dab of tomato sauced cabbage on the side, it was just the sort of healthy and tasty lunch M and I needed after our excessive Mexican feast and boozy late night yesterday. I especially needed it because I have been OD’ing on cupcakes. I don’t even want to confess as to how many are left.
We ran into Farmer Joe again. M fainted inside a little. Mancrushes. Sigh.
Since M’s watching football all day tomorrow and I’m leaving for New York Friday, we didn’t want to get that many fresh veggies. I also took into account that we haven’t been eating everything in a timely fashion and decided to cap our spending at $25 instead of the around $35 we usually put out. However, it didn’t even take that much to get what we needed.
A bunch of greens that I didn’t catch the name of, a bunch of organic kale, a green zucchini/melon-looking thing, and a pound of jujubees. I don’t know what a jujubee is, but they taste pretty lame. Kind of like a dry, arid, tasteless sponge with a slightly sweet aftertaste. Crunchyish. Just weird. Even the name is weird. Joo-joo-beeeee.
I whipped up a plate of deliciosity.
