I had today all planned out. After Chinese school for M, we headed into the Mission for some gustatory delights.
M had some Groupons to use at Pancho Villas – he bought two of the pay $7, get $14 worth of food. And I had a Townhog coupon to use as well (you shall see for what later on).
M decided we should each use one of the coupons and both get $14 worth of food. This was the first warning flag. Mexican food isn’t the most expensive cuisine out there and $14 worth of beans, burritos and guac turns out to be quite a small mountain of food.
The second warning flag was that both of us were famished by the time we reached Pancho Villa’s and therefore ordered WAY too much food in general.
The food was pretty scrumptious though. So deliciously fresh and packed with tart flavors of lime and tomato, creamy beans and rice and just all in all, ridiculously good. M said he prefers Pancho Villa to La Taqueria because the beef is better at PV’s but I don’t know. I’m still on the fence. I need to try some tacos at La Taqueria for comparison. M ordered a steak burrito and sides of rice, beans, and half a plain avocado. I got three tacos – a veggie tofu, a grilled veggie, and the Super Vegetarian Taco.
I threw in the towel after one taco. In my defense, I had already taken a bite of my other two tacos and the one I actually ate was the biggest one – the Super Vegetarian Taco. It was a beast.
Groaning and rolling our way out of there, we still had our next destination to tackle. CUPCAKES!
For some reason, I thought that having lunch right before picking up two dozen cupcakes would be no obstacle to my cupcake obsession. Of course I would be able to snarf down a dozen despite having a belly full of Mexican food.
I was so wrong. So. So. Wrong.
Pancho Villa destroyed M and me. We literally were in so much pain from having stomachs that wanted to explode. But my coupon allowed me to get 24 mini cupcakes for $12. Such a steal! So I knew I had to soldier on.
I was mesmerized. Despite my aching tummy, I knew I had to get home as soon as possible so I could rip into a cupcake. Or two.
I ate a plain vanilla first. And my heart broke a little when I realized it was nowhere near as good as Cups and Cakes Luscious Vanilla. M was right when he called me a cheater from his fetal position hugging his stomach on my bubble rug. He has, so far, refused to touch a cupcake because he doesn’t want to cheat on Cups and Cakes.
But then I ate another cupcake and I think it’s flavor was Horchata. Even though it still wasn’t as good as any of the Cups and Cakes cupcakes, it cheered me up quite a bit.
Now, M and I are on to ANOTHER destination. I shall update tomorrow about the secret happenings of tonight.
xoxo,
Jenn
