I have been planning this day for a while in secret. I love secret surprises.
I only told Dad and Chip to eat a good breakfast and pick me up at 9:30 a.m.
I guess something in my manner made them both think we were doing something physically strenuous like rock-climbing.
That is why when we arrived at the corner of De Haro and Mariposa, they were happily surprised to discover we were at Anchor Brewery Co. for their free tour. (It was my second time – you may remember I did the same tour with M a few months ago.)
Taking off work for beer and sunshine with family is probably the best thing ever.
Dad had SUCH a good time. He asked a million questions on the tour and even more once he cornered our tour guide behind the bar.
I guess it is hard not to have a great time with beer all around.
I only had sips of my samples and gave the rest to Dad. He was totally toasted by the time we left – and at 11 a.m. in the morning!
Happy Father’s Day Dad!
Of course we had to get some lunch right after. We went off to Vietnam II on the corner of Larkin and Ellis. Only one of my Dad’s favorite restaurant ever.
We were definitely hungry and ordered fast. Pho (a Vietnamese beef broth with noodles and meat) was had by both Dad and Chip though they said it was not as good as their usual pho place on Irving St.
I ordered their vegetarian vermicelli and it came with fried tofu and little egg rolls on top. The fish sauce on the side was light and not fishy at all. It added the perfect tang and flavor to my meal.
I loved it. I think it may be my favorite Vietnamese dish. And what was even better was its size. It was so huge I took half home and had it for dinner.
On the side I had fresh young coconut water. I think they hacked it open in the back just for me. It tasted so delicious and had little pieces of meat floating in it the bottom.
Best Father’s Day to date.
xoxo,
Jenn
