M’s graduation dinner.

M’s huge blowout graduation/birthday pool party is on Saturday, but my parents wanted to take us out to a little celebratory dinner tonight.

M wanted Mongolian beef and I had not had Chinese food in forever so Mumsies suggested Ming’s on Taraval and 32nd and of course we agreed (we both do not know where to get good Chinese food).

Mumsies ordered fast and the food came fast as well. Great because I had been at the Verizon store for two hours trying to figure out what new phone to get. I went with the LG Ally by the way.

First up, the daily soup that just comes with dinner. Pretty nice because I definitely was not expecting this.Unfortunately it was pork, carrot and potato so I abstained. The parents and M slurped away happily though.

Then, salt and pepper squid.A little too salty and the squid was weirdly soft, but it was deep-fried and savory, so I still ate a million pieces.

M said the Mongolian beef was tender and very tasty, but did not have the spicy oomph he was looking for. I personally think he has seared his taste buds with raw jalapenos and habaneros and cannot taste food normally anymore.

Finally, the veg-heavy dishes came out.

Soft and silky tofu seafood clay pot and garlic pea shoots! I LOVE pea shoots. I think I ate half of that pile of greenery.

The tofu was terrific. Each piece was melting in the middle and soaked in light flavorful seafood broth. M said it was horrible though. He did not like “biting into a gush of ickiness.”

Such a narrow palate. Le sigh.

My dad’s order of steamed oysters with black bean sauce. He had already snatched one by the time I whipped out my camera.

I did not eat this because I think oysters are an insult to my tongue. But everyone else ate two and loved it.

Finally, the latest installment of dessert soup. Or as Chip and I would call it: “snot soup.”

Surprisingly, M and I both thought it was pretty good. Green beans in a mildly sweet soup. Inoffensive for sure.

All in all, we descended on the food like a pack of locusts, ate our way through five dishes and two pots of rice in record time, and then sat back with early-onset food coma disease.

I need to eat Chinese food more often.

xoxo,

Jenn

P.S. Congratulations M for being a MBA grad!!
