M-ondays: Fury Storm

Before I start my weekly tale, I want to give thanks on this Memorial Day to all service men and women, who gave their lives for this wonderful country.

Jenn introduced me to the Codex Alera novels by Jim Butcher which have utterly consumed me. I have been reading practically nonstop this entire three-day weekend. I read through the night on Friday because I could not, for the life of me, put the book down. I swear it’s like crack!

Today, I knew I would face Jenn’s great furies if I remained in bed reading like a nugget while the sun was still shining. I knew she was getting hungry, so I suggested we go to the bookstore (so I can buy the next two fury books) and get her some food.

Jenn loves to read and Borders calmed her inner food fury from working its craft. However, as soon as we left, I could tell that my time was running short.

Code red, Jenn needed food!

If I didn’t make a decision quickly, I would be in for a world of hurt.

I looked around to assess my options, and I found my target on the corner of Post and Mason.

Pinecrest “The Food Makers” Restaurant

Within minutes we placed our order. Jenn got a veggie sandwich and I went with a bacon avocado burger.

Our food arrived quickly and I was relieved that Jenn approved. Her fury was quelled, and all was well.

Except my burger was just average. It was dry and missing a key ingredient, the avocado. I informed the staff of the missing element and soon had a plate to complement my meal. It helped a bit but still nothing special.

Jenn told me she liked her meal but gave her leftovers to a homeless man on our way back to the apartment. I looked at her with a confused look and she said,

Jenn: “For karma of course.”

Translation,  the sandwich did not meet her standards. However, the mission was completed, Jenn’s inner food fury was suppressed for the time being. That alone is a win in my book :)

To our next battle!

Strength and Honor,

Leftover happiness.

Mumsies and I went shopping today for five hours. We came upon many atrocities, but I think this was the worst.
After Dad came over to watch “Alien v. Predator,” it was time for dinner, but I had nothing planned.

I had to wing it.

I took out all the leftover odds and ends from the past week and decided soup was the best way to go.

Coconut ginger rice from Tuesday, boiled yam slices from Wednesday, half a cup of marinara sauce from Thursday, and the last of our produce. I was going to put in a scoop of “Masala Simmer Sauce” that I opened last week, but decided it would taste weird.

Chopped, diced and brought to a boil with a can of tomato sauce, I threw in a super old habanero and a serrano to make things a little spicy.

It was good, the half-cooked rice turned out perfectly done without getting mushy which was nice.

Time to rent a movie and couch-potato the night away!

xoxo,

Jenn
