So this is home ownership – a never-ending list of things to do.
We’re only the third owners of our pretty-well-maintained 1926 home, but there is still so much to do. First, we’re getting a new roof and the floors redone before moving in. The previous owners had four chihuahuas and it looks like they were free to pee anywhere. Gross. I’m not even going to talk about the smell.
Then we hope to get the inside painted, room by room, then fix the small termite issue down by the garage, then (hopefully) repair and not have to replace the beautiful original windows, then built out another bathroom, the kitchen…
Yea. Michael and I are in for it. I don’t think this is what most people call a “starter home.” Taking care of a small 600 sq. ft. apartment is not at all the same as taking care of a rattling 1,800 sq. ft. home on a roughly 5,500 sq. ft. lot. This is insane. (Especially because we are getting married on Sunday!)
We spent all day today pulling weeds, picking up trash, trimming the bushes, and hanging out with our floor refinishing guy just to supervise the demo phase. My grandpa’s the one with the green thumb and I’m pretty sure he’s going to cringe at the hack job we made of our bushes.
It’s a small start we’ve gotten so far, but I just know it’s going to look amazing when the home is all spruced and freshened up. Can’t wait to move into it!
xoxo,
Jenn
